A Buying Guide To Pocket Sprung Mattress

A pocket sprung mattress is quite simply the very best that money can buy and a sounds nights sleep is the most sacred thing money can buy.  When you consider that a quality mattress will last between 8-10 years the overall price is not a great deal more than buying 2 or 3 inferior quality mattress that will lose tension and sag and may cause sleepless nights and back problems.

Each spring acts independently to allow the contours of the body to be gently supported.

Consider that a standard mattress has 325 springs and when buying a pocket sprung mattress you are ranging from 1000 upto 3000 springs, though in reality you don't need greater than 2000 unless your over 30 Stone.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY MATTRESS MYTHS - marketing will baffle you with numbers.  Quantity does not equal quality.  You can cram inferior springs into a mattress that have no added benefit to comfort but the higher number gives plays to popular thought that more is better.   Advertising will also make claims such as 'orthopedic' or ' postuerpedic'.  These terms just mean that the mattress has more springs than average and will give increased support, they are not a medical cure for back problems.

The Pocket Sprung Mattress is ideal if there is a weight and size variation between you and your partner.  The individual springs will act to take the weight of your partner only so you won't be lifted or roll due to the impact of your partners movements.  In a traditional open coil system the springs are interwoven, so when pressure is applied to the spring at one end it can have an effect on the springs at the other end causing the 'roll together' and a feeling of being bounced up when your partner sits or moves on the bed.   These are problems eroded by a pocket sprung mattress.

The Pocket Sprung Mattress is perfect for a slatted bed frame.  Memory foam and Visco foam mattress are not a suitable choice for a slatted base bed as they don't offer the same support.

Pocket springs are rows of small diameter, 16 to 17 gauge wire, parallel or barrel-shaped springs, each housed separately in a fabric pocket.  The rows of springs are then clipped, tied or glued together.  The spring count of a pocket sprung mattress can vary considerably depending on the diameter of the springs.
