Before investing in a vintage Belstaff Trialmaster try picking up a tie or some braces first. Just to get your toes wet like.
* If you like it buy it - forget what Dave thinks. Buy for YOURSELF!
Forget what the magazines, media and friends say are "in" . If you like it, want it, and know you want to wear it then BUY IT!
* Make a positive decision - and BUY NOW!
Some vintage gear is proper rare, even one offs... I learned the hard way to be decisive. It may be years before you see another one like it. DONT LET IT GET AWAY!
* Condition is important!
Lets face it most of us are not Rumplestiltskin or Montague Burton, If something needs repairing then remember repairs will cost money! With some vintage clothes, you'll pay a more for that "lived in" factor. A shiny black leather jacket or perfect blue levis just don't cut it! Little things should be ignored, for example, a little moth bite on the inside seam of a vintage cashmere sweater is no big dealt. One on the middle of the chest of that same jumper isnt. Check items over carefully before purchasing, and send a message if youre not sure.
* Recognise the good vintage sellers!
Subscribe to your fave shops and dont be shy to send them messages asking for particular items, most of the vintage sellers are really enthusiastic about their stuff, and are glad to help out in any way they can :P
* Browse, browse, then... browse some more!
Browsing the best vintage sites is one of the best ways to to get used to finding those ace vintage pieces. Keep track of your favorite eBay sellers and save some searches, as we always say BROWSE BROWSE BROWSE!
HEALTH WARNING!!! Collecting and wearin' vintage gear is addictive!!!!
"From the '50s to the '80s (and soon the '90s), everything from saddle shoes and spandex to big collars and big hair eventually sees a reemergence on the fashion scene. Every era has a comeback, as today's designers simply update the styles from other time periods. So basically, it's the concepts from different decades that return, rather than the actual article of clothing. Even films are "recycled," as they apply the same core storyline and disguise it by using different actors and settings."
