Hello all, I am Naomi, owner of Riverbrook and this time in my guide I am going to help you with region codes:
What is Dvd Region coding?
Dvd's are giving codes to prevent people in one country from viewing another country's product.Companies typically think that it is unfair for the people of richer countries who can afford(they mistakenly think) to pay for £15.00 dvd's,to be able to buy £6.00-£8.00 dvd's from poorer nations so this is why the dvd coding was invented.DVD codes are usually located on the back of the dvd case inside a small globe(known as the world)
Region 1:USA,CANADA, and US TERRITORIES
Region 2:JAPAN,EUROPE,SOUTH AFRICA,GREENLAND AND THE MIDDLE EAST
Region 3:SOUTH EAST ASIA(INCLUDES HONG KONG,SOUTH KOREA and TAIWAN
Region 4:AUSTRALIA,NEW ZEALAND,PACIFIC ISLANDS,CENTRAL AMERICA,MEXICO,SOUTH AMERICA and the CARIBBEAN
Region 5:EASTERN EUROPE(RUSSIA),THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT,AFRICA and MONGOLIA
Region 6:CHINA
Region 7:(reserved) and Region 8 is another specialist code usually reserved for airplanes, cruise ships etc
Region 0/Region ALL:This indicates that the dvd can be played worldwide,i.e. in Regions 1-6.However,PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
So this concludes the zone and dvd code information. Most dvd players in the U.K are formatted to play region all discs in both the NTSC and PAL format, but always check your dvd player manual to make sure.
In my opinion the best electronic buy you will ever make is to buy a multi-region dvd player which willnot only allow the playing of region all (both formats) but also the ability to play region 1-6 dvds. There is no better time then now to pick one up as they cost from as little as £29.99.
