This is my quick guide on the do's and dont's when buying the latest hid kits.
1. My Golden rule for UK buyers is don't buy from foreign sellers from CHINA, HK and USA, I can't stress this enough and is very important for a number of reasons. Firstly the majority sell counterfeit kits such as BOSCH and many others, BOSCH don't even make HID kits and never have done! These kits will last just days and not years like they're supposed too. Secondly if you buy from abroad and something fails like a bulb etc.. its going to be a struggle to replace it, because these sellers are selling counterfeit goods anyway problems are bound to happen and it will be near impossible to get your money back. These cunning scammers attract you by the name and the cheap price but you have to remember that the item they're selling is fake and fake electronics are dangerous. They can set fire to your car so not only will you have no chance of getting your money back you will have to fix your car and worst still it could cause injury to you. Also remember that if you do buy from abroad you have to pay import duty, tax and thats if it turns up! so the cheap price you think your getting is not a reality at all!
2. Hid kits come in various shapes and sizes and naturally its important they fit and work with your car. One size does not fit all and there are number of factors to consider when buying a) make sure the kit is CANBUS compatable because if its not then the kit won't work on any modern cars without flickering or shutting down, this is because all modern cars have ECU's and CANBUS wiring and the ECU in your car will not recognize the new lights you have fitted and will shut them down. b) some cars require extra bulb holders and other equipment to make them fit so make sure you ask the seller if the kit will fit your car.
3. Avoid sellers who pretend they're based in the UK when they're not as you're not protected under UK laws if aything goes wrong. The sellers will say they're in the UK but the goods will come from a foriegn country and it means that the seller doesn't even have the kits in stock and you could be waiting for a long time before you receive it.
4. Don't buy hid kits from private sellers as they're obviously not registered businesses and if anything goes wrong a few months down the line and you need to replace something they will be more than likely not be there. Also its unlikely they will have the expertise in hID lighting and won't offer you any support or even send you the right kit in the first place.
