Texas Hold'em fixed limit
In Texas Hold'em fixed limit it is important with potodds, the most common mistakes players make are calling with hands when they don't have potodds. For example, you have to pay $20 to call and the pot is $100. In total you have to pay $20 to win a $120 pot, the bet you lay counts as belonging to the pot. That means the pay-out is 5 to 1. The idea with potodds is to have a better chance of winning than the odds for the pot. If you flop a flush draw you'll have 35% of hitting the flush and hopefully win with that. The odds for winning the pot is 2 to 1 if you're calling (with 35 % you will win slighty more than 1 out of 3 times to be exact) but the size of the pot gives you 5 to 1 in pay-out. That means you only need to win 1 out of 6 times in order to break even, thus you have correct pot odds to continue playing the hand with a 2 to 1 chance of winning. Incorrect pot odds would have been calling a 5 to 1 pot having less chance than 5 to 1 to win the pot.
Choosing starting hands is a very important factor in fixed limit. The best way to start out is to play premium hands. In a regular game you should see about 20-30% of the flops. That way you minimize the risk of having the second best hand and if you're up against beginners they will most of the time have worse hands than you. Good starting hands include: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AKs, AK off-suit, AQ, AQ off-suit. These hands are hands that you should raise with, be careful with the AQ if there has been a raise earlier from a tight player. Hands like KQ, QJ, K10, can easily become trapping hands, meaning they often end up being second best hand. Only call with hands like these from late position and the pot is unraised.
The most important stage when deciding to play a hand or not is pre-flop. Avoid calling on the turn when bets are doubled and you feel uncertain to win or not. Calling all the way down to the river is a big leak in fixed limit.
Avoid being predictable, if you only play premium hands your opponents will know and chew you up for breakfast. Occasionally raise with weaker hands and call with premium hands
