Does your automatic hot drinks machine give drinks of varying quality?
Do the ingredients clog up and 'beard' at the end of the canister?
If so, the problem lies with the steam extraction system. All automatic hot drink vending machines have a fan and a system of pipework to take the steam from the hot water away, and vent it to outside the machine. This keeps the ingredient dry. This also takes small amounts of the ingredient powder, which over time builds up in the pipework and in the fan, causing blockages and slowing down the fan. Extreme cases can also cause the fan to fail completely. This reduces the efficiency of the system and instead of the steam being removed to outside, it remains in the machine causing dampness which clogs the ingredient.
So what do these fans look like?
This type of fan comes in various sizes and is common on the table top, free vend dispensers such as Matrix, GDS, & Coffeteck. It is also used in some of the free standing machines such as Sankey & Wittenborg.
This type of fan also comes in various sizes and is mainly used in the larger machines such as Stentorfield, Westomatic & earlier Sankey machines. Some machines have more than one fan and some have more than one pipe ducted to it.

Where are these fans?
On the table top machines, they are mainly on the bottom of the machine. On the larger machines they tend to be on the back panel. They are well hidden behind internal panels but the location can be found by looking under or behind the machine for the vent aperture. How to solve the problem.
The most important thing to remember is.Isolate the machine from the electrical supply
Each manufacturer has different methods of mounting the fans and I don't propose to try to describe each one. If you have a manual it should help, failing that if you drop me an email I should be able to help. The fan will need to be removed and replaced with a clean working one which gives a good airflow. It is also important to remove all pipework leading to the fan and thoroughly clean it to ensure that there are no blockages. It should be fully dry before refitting as any dampness will cause problems with blockages as the powder will stick.I hope this short guide has been interesting and of benefit to you.
