Hi, I thought that I would add a few words to the debate on bootlegs. My main issue is in the terminology, a bootleg generally relates to an album or CD of a concert by a band/artist. Recording quality can be poor, however some of these (check The Grateful Dead) were encouraged by the band and some mixes came straight from the mixing desk. A counterfeit is a copy of a commercial release and shoud be avoided at all times. These are mainly from the far east, cheaply made and the sound qulit will be awful - Avoid at all costs. However, bootlegs are generally collectable and in m opinion don't the artist any harm at all. In fact, I find hat they are generally flattered that someone has bothered. They are illegal as the recent Led Zeppelin case has shown.
