Broken or lost your Remote Control ?

Then you may already know that a TV, or set-top box is virtually useless without the handset, unless you are happy watching the same channel it's stuck on, forever. This guide is written to help you select the best 'Direct Compatible' replacement, Freeview, OnDigital/ITVdigital, TV/IDTV remote control, without paying the crazy prices asked by the original manufacturers, (Assuming that is, you can ever get hold of them.)

  • Firstly. Never buy a so-called, 'Universal' remote, (sometimes referred to as a One-for-All, or One-4-All.) These rarely work freeview boxes anyway, and the ones that do are basically 'channel-changers only', ie, no good for Setting-up, or re-tuning for new channels, Teletext, Program Guide, Subtitles, etc, etc. Yes, they are cheap, but you get what you pay for. They also need to be 'set-up' by finding, and then putting in a special code for your exact Make and Model, this can be hit or miss, fiddly, and also very time-consuming, assuming your exact Make and Model is even programmed-in.
  • Secondly. Original remotes are usually overpriced, or almost impossible to find. The manufacturers often make more profit selling spares, than they do selling the original item. We have often been quoted £30 - £70 for the Original remote! Other makers/supermarkets have obscure brand-names that you have never heard of before, and they usually offer hardly any spares/service back-up, or none whatsoever.
  • Thirdly(?). Dont buy a second-hand remote. Sure, you see cheap 'used' remotes on eBay now and again, usually originating from boot-sales, but remember remote controls get a hell of a lot of use, they are usually used every day by all the family, including the kids, chewed by the dog, dropped, soaked, bashed, etc, so they are never going to last long. For around £10 you can get youself a nice shiny new one that will be guaranteed, or else you will be looking for yet another replacment again before you know it.

Our aim is to provide 100% Direct Compatible remotes that do the full job, but at sensible prices, usually from only £4.99. We source from 10 manufacturers wordwide, who specialize in designing remote controls ONLY, they have been around for many years, and our past customers have said that our Compatible 'replacements' are as good as, and quite often better than the originals. (see our feedback.) There's no plasticy, fiddly buttons, or huge, heavy handsets here, we know customers prefer a slim, one-handed remote, with nice rubber buttons. They will do EVERY function of the Model Number required, eg, Set-up, Tuning, AV, Text, Subtitles, Screen-Format, etc, etc. just like the original.

We can now supply remotes for well over 100 Freeview & On-Digital boxes, and believe this is the widest choice currently available. To see our full range, view our eBay shop category, Freeview Remotes  TIP. We have too many models listed! so try putting your Make or Model-number into the 'Shop-Search' box, located near the top of the left-hand column on that page, and on all of our auctions.

We also supply TV, Video, DVD, Cable, Satellite, Sky, and Combi remote controls. Over One Hundred-Thousand models now available, see our TV, Combi, & Sky Remotes category in our shop. (also use the TIP mentioned above.)

Questions

What if my model isn't listed? Dont worry, we can't possibly list all 100,000 Makes and Models. Just drop us a line via 'Ask Seller a Question' and we will see if there is a full-Compatible remote available for your exact model. We can't promise, but can usually supply 95% of models requested. Remember, don't take the model number from the manual, or the front of the set, always get the Model-Number from the back of your set, (Please, NOT the huge Serial Number !)

What if a remote still isn't available for my model, or I'm not sure of the exact Model-number? A lot of recent models are rebadged with 'own-brand' names, for the supermarkets, etc. If you still have the old remote control, it may help us if you can get hold of the model-number of the Remote Control itself, its usually printed on the front, but sometimes they 'hide' then away, inside the battery compartment ;^ )

Is it my remote, or the set, thats faulty? Easy, just operate your remote near the aerial of a radio set to AM or MW, (not FM) and you should hear a pulsing sound. Did you also know that you can also 'see' the invisible Infra-Red light that comes from a remote control, if you look via a Digital cameras LCD display? (Also works with your mobile phone, if it has a camera, try it!)

For fuller details, and other testing methods, see the 'HELP' section on our ME page. (just click on the coloured 'Me' symbol, next to our feedback score, at the top-right of this page.)

Best of luck, BCELECTRONICS.co.uk
