Before you buy any mobility items, there are some important points that you need to consider.

Some sellers price mobility items at VAT relief prices, which is all well and good if you are entitled to this relief, but not everyone is, if you are not able to sign a VAT relief certificate, you will be charged 17.5% VAT on the final total of your purchase. If in any doubt you should check your entitlement with your local VAT office before you work out the price that you will need to pay for the item.

Once you know how much you will need to pay you should then ask the seller the following questions.

• Can I return the item if it is not suitable, if so what postage costs will I need to pay
• Does the item carry any guarantee.
• Do you offer any after sales service in the event of a breakdown after the guarantee has expired
• Is there a telephone helpline so I don't need to be waiting for emails to go back and forth.

Try before you buy

If you see something that you like on Ebay, and you are satisfied with all the points listed above, why not visit your local mobility showroom and try out a similar model, then if you like it, and the price is right, buy it from Ebay.
