This is a short history of the pumps most common in the UK between 1945-59

Beckmeter Model M. These were available in two sizes, rather austere looking pump with a clock dial which unlike most other pumps does not have a cast iron base. Rubber mouldings have a tendancy to disintergrate. BP was a big customer of this company.

Avery Hardoll 598 An attractive pump available in three sizes. Well made with very nice enamel clock face. Looks good in Shell livery.

Wayne 1070 USA Came into this country in 1946, unusual white on black clock face. With it's shoulders it resembles an "American Footballer" and lends itself to many colour schemes.

Gilbarco Salesmaker.  Resembling a period fridge with it curved front. Even if it still has it original glass the special seal will be perished so a perspex replacement will be needed. Available with computing head or clockface, these good looking pumps were supplied to Esso and Cleveland
