Choosing a chandelier will make or break a room.  Taking the time to choose the right one for your taste, budget and size of room is important.....it may even add value to your home!   So I thought I should share a few of the tips and ideas I've collected throuigh the years whilst buying and selling vintage lighting.

There are a few rules when choosing the best sized chandelier for your room.  Follow these and your beautiful, perhaps very expensive chandelier will look spectatcular.  Don't and you may be left with a chandelier which either overpowers the room or looks, quite frankly, very silly!

  • Simple proportion rule ~ Your chandelier should be 2" wide for every 1 foot of room width ie 15 foot wide room = 30" wide chandelier.

  • An elaborate chandelier will look bigger than its actual size so take this into account.

  • If you are lighting a long room, consider installing two chandeliers which fit the width of the room.  One oversized chandelier will look out of proportion.
