Don't pay over the odds for a Sky+ digibox or HD box . Dont pay over £30 for a used one on ebay as you can get a new one for £49 now through Sky.

They currently retail at £99 for existing customers (through Sky) that are prepared to stay with them for another 12 months. Sky HD currently have offers for £75 for a box.  I'm guessing if you're considering getting a new box then a 12 month contract isn't an issue. (Usually get a standard 40hrs recording time unit sent out for Sky+).

Then add on a £60 installation (£30 for HD) and you're normally in for over £100.

If you want cheaper then read on as it worked for me. Ring up Sky cancellations 08442 414141 and tell them you are considering leaving to Freeview and going to get a DVD recorder instead. Then say that you considered Sky+ or Sky HD (whichever you want) but its too dear. They then offer you the really special deals and just let them convince you to stay... easy. We got SkyHD for £49 with £10 installation. Much better than the advertised offer. We also got 3 months half price HD cost (£5 instead of £10)

Bear this in mind before bidding so that you dont pay over the odds. However, some digiboxes on ebay do offer more recording time. If this is important, Sky's new boxes are all the same (40hrs).

I have no personal interest or gain with this, just something which could stop you bidding over the odds for a used system.
