Bakelite items get dull over time, I have found that heavy buffing with a duster and Brasso brings the items up very well. I was visiting an aircraft factory many years age and I noticed one gallon drums of the stuff. I asked what it was for and the reply was,,,,,,, To clean the windscreens of aircraft and other hard plastics.
