Whilst there is nothing wrong with an ex serviceman or servicewoman selling off and odd bit of kit here and there that they no longer require, and whilst there are legitimate official disposal agents and ligitimate private and retail sources for surplus British forces clothing and equipment there are a number of people quite simply stealing kit and selling it. If you suspect someone is selling or receiving stolen clothing or equipment then if you are a member of the public (cadets etc) then you should report them directly to the civillian police. If you feel that the civillian police are not acting accordingly then you should contact the military police. Try your local Army, Navy or RAF station and ask for the military police. Be clear and concise and have the evidence at hand, such as item numbers, ebay members names, dates etc. Always keep records. What is sickening is when the public are able to buy perfectly servicable equipment such as body armour, yet our brave service personnel have in the past died because there is not enough to go around. Also, it is a very poor show when service personnel are forced to buy their own equipment because there is not enough to go around and they have to supplement the shortfall by buying their own. Personally, it is my opinion that the MOD should not dispose of perfectly servicable equipment which could be passed down from regular service to the TA and ACF, CCF and ATC to use, not sold off for literally pennies. As an example; why sell off a perfect condition nearly new military ambulance, with only 17,000 recorded miles when it is in far better condition that the one used by my local TA field hospital! Sheer madness!
