DEAR EBAYER
LEARN HOW TO RE-GRIP YOUR OWN CLUBS HERE FOR FREE....
There is a saying in Golf that if you replace tired worn out grips that it will save you 3-4 shots a round, now how many of us could do with that help.......
Grips are reasonably inexpensive and you will find ALL the latest NEW models out there on EBAY at a fraction of the price you'd pay from your Club Pro or Golf Discount store.
BUT MOST GOLFERS CONTINUE TO PAY A FORTUNE TO HAVE THEM FITTED
YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF !!!
HERE'S ALL YOU WILL NEED
-
A Stanley knife or chisel.
-
A roll of double sided grip tape (usually supplied with grips bought from Ebay)
-
A bottle of everyday white spirit (found for around £1 in all DIY shops)
-
A set of grips that you want on your clubs (do your homework see what you like)
-
The right size grip (if you're s / m / ml glove you're OK with standard size anyone who wears a large glove needs a midsize grip).
Right I learnt this many years ago when I was an Assistant Pro and I'm still regripping for friends, it's very easy.
These step by step instructions will show you all you need
-
Remove the old grips, be careful you're using a sharp knife cut away from your body, and be especially careful with Graphite use small cuts and pull the old grip away, on steel shafts simply hold the grip end of the club on the ground and slide a chisel down the length of the grip to cut it away from the shaft - best to do this in a garage or shed etc.
-
Remove all remnants of the old tape - usually pulls away easily if not scrape it with the side of the chisel.
-
Tap the shaft to ensure nothing in the shaft i.e. rust or bits of old tape that cause rattle in your club during use.
-
Wrap the tape around the top of the shaft in a cylindrical wrapping motion starting at the top - leave some over on the top of the shaft, leave a little more tape on than the length of your new grip.
-
Remove the top layer on the double sided tape so you have the tacky tape visible.
-
It can pay to double wrap the top section of the shaft so you cover all the shaft.
-
Pour a generous amount of white spirit into the NEW grip ensuring you put your finger over the end to save spillage.
-
Now pour the white spirit onto a rag / cloth and generously apply to all the tape especially to the top, you need it to be wet to ease the grip on.
-
Slide the grip on in a twisting motion the opposite way to how you've applied the tape, slide the grip fully down until it is completely down to the end of the grip.
-
Now place the head on a firm surface and work the grip to ensure it is square to the face, this is why it's handy to ensure you've applied plenty of white spirit as it makes it easier to twist the grip.
-
Leave to dry I usually allow overnight but can be sooner, trim the protruding tape from the bottom of the grip by gently cutting with the knife / chisel and clean the residue left with a damp cloth.
I tend to tape up all clubs I'm regripping first then apply the grips.
Hope this helps you Golfers out there to save a fortune and PLAY BETTER GOLF!!!
