Introduction

This electronic digital eyepiece has a standard fitting interface with eyepiece adapter (i.e., Diameter=1.25" or 31.75mm, fitting height=17mm) that can be fitted to a spotting scope or telescope as long as the scope has a 1.25" eyepiece holder. The digital eyepiece can be connected to a desktop/laptop computer through a USB cable. You can see a distant object on the computer screen and take pictures. You can also make a video recording of distant scene and save the video file into the computer.

This device is particularly suitable for Nipon 26-78x78 scope (with an adapter which is available from this shop). It is also adaptable for other types of scopes with a standard 1.25" eyepiece holder.

Software installation

The software programme of the digital eyepiece works under Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Visa systems.

Detailed user guide will come with the product.

How to connect the digital eyepiece to the scope?

Disconnect the scope's eyepiece from where as shown in the photo below (by turning it anticlockwise). Please DO NOT remove the last ring that is next to the scope's main body. Connect the eyepiece adaptor, and then insert the digital eyepiece into the adaptor. Adjust the tightening screw as necessary.

You can also use other types of standard 1.25" fixed power eyepieces if you wish.

How to take still pictures?

  • To capture still image using the digital eyepiece/camera, go to "My Computer" and double click the "USB Video Device". You can see a dynamic image window on the screen to show what you see in the scope.

  • Aim the scope at a distant target and adjust the focus wheel of the scope until the image becomes clear.

  • You can turn the digital eyepiece slightly within the eyepiece adapter to adjust the image orientation if necessary (remember to loose the tightening screw on the adaptor first).

  • Under "Camera Tasks" manual, click "Take a new picture", the image of the current scene will be captured and saved as .jpg file. The captured image files are listed on the screen so they can be copied to another location.

  • Please note that you cannot use this feature and video capture (amcap program) simultaneously - you must close one to use the other.

(See below for some pictures taken by the digital eyepiece through the NIPON 26-78x78 compact scope)

How to capture video footage (use amcap)?

  • Run the amcap program (make sure that the still image capturing program is closed) and go to "File", select "Set capture file".

  • Choose a location you want your video to be saved and click "Save".

  • On the next screen "Set file size", just click OK, as this is only to control the initial file size.

  • To begin recording, to to "Capture" manual, then choose "Start capture" and click OK. This will start recording.

  • To stop recording and save the video file, go to "Capture" then select "Stop capture". The video will be automatically saved and can be viewed by accessing the .avi file stored in your selected location.

Note: More up-to-date user guide will come with the product.
