Psittacosaurus meileyingensis

As specialists in Asian fossils, especially Psittacosaur dinosaurs and Keichousaur reptiles, we occassionally have had opportunity to prepare complete dinosaur skeletons while retaining the original matrix bed.

This format of a dinosaur skeleton being surface prepared, leaving the underside within matrix is particularly prone to compositing, even extensive fabrication by Chinese artisans.

With liberal application of resin or matrix/glue mixtures, bones can be created relatively easily as only the uppermost form has to be crafted.

Our specimen below shows a 100% original Psittacosaurus meileyingensis preserved in original matrix with just the surface matrix brushed away to reveal a hint of what lies beneath (first image).

Subsequent images show the completed juvenile having preserved with wonderful detail and superbly articulated.

Most such examples are offered for sale from Mainland China - we would discourage any such purchase as the region is the engine house for fabrication.

Only purchasing from respected preparators ensures that the fossil will be all it claims to be.
