Are you carrying excess weight around?
Is your boot full of things you dont really need? Unloading items that you dont need for your journey will reduce the work load on your cars engine which in turn will lower your fuel consumption and most importantly save YOU money and reduce CO2 emissions. Think of all the goodies you can buy instead of your money going up in smoke!
Engine Idling
If you end up sitting at a stop for more than a couple of minutes turn your engine off to save yourself some cash. We all hate being stuck in traffic jams but you certainly shouldnt have to pay for it. Less fuel will be used and lower CO2 emissions so its a win win.
Tyres
Tyre pressures should be checked on a regular basis and especially before long trips to put a bulge back in your wallet. If the pressure is lower than recommended you will use more fuel and tires will need to be changed a lot sooner than they should. At the correct pressure you will save money, tyres last longer and lower CO2 emissions as you will burn less fuel.
Revving Like A Race Car Driver!
Pretty pointless wouldnt you say. All it does is burn more fuel for no gain what so ever and your engine will need to be repaired or replaced a lot sooner than it should. Remember your bank balance every time you hit that accelerator.
Driving Fast Doesnt Make Your Money Last!
The faster you go the higher your fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. At 50MPH you use around 25% less fuel than used at 70MPH and at 60MPH you use around 10% less fuel than used at 70MPH. If you drive at 100MPH+ you probably wont have your licence long, wont live very long and certainly wont have much spare cash. Join a racing club or go gokarting. Its safer and over the course of a year will save you a packet.
