Many ebayers do not know about ebay shops. This is a separate system to the usual Auction or Fixed Price format sales. A Seller may decide to rent an ebay shop when they have regular sales or quantities of stock available. Most shops are run by business users. A basic shop costs £6 per month to rent and each listing costs betweem 3 and 11 pence per month. Enhancements are extra.

So listing is significantly cheaper, but visibility on ebay is also much less. A seller must drive traffic to their shop by having regular sales in a balanced portfolio. The basic search will not show shop listings in the main view. They may show in the secondary view underneath when there are less than 6 items in the main search. This view begins with the shops and door symbol with the number of items found matching your search.

(You may also see under this view '' items from ebay international sellers'')

On the left side of the page, under the yellow search box, a second box has the following title ''Shop ebay stores''. Under this title will be the shops (anchor and featured first) selling the most items associated with the search you have made (but only if they are listed in auction or BIN fixed price). You can click individual shops on this list to view their items or click the link which reads - see all matching shops - which will show you a list of all those shops selling items related to your search, set in a hierarchical order.

To search shops specifically, you need to click the advanced search link under the 'start general search' box. In the following window you can find shops or search items in shops. The box on the left of page gives the search options. To search for items in shops first click the 'items in shops' tag, then make your search.

eg. if you search the following - 24 ct gold charms - you will see the list of all those charms available in ebay shops regardless of selling format. If you check the box  which reads 'search title and description' this will show the same items in the first search but will also throw up items where elements of your search words - 24 ct gold charms - are in the description somewhere on the listings. Most of these items will not be relevant to your search but you may sometimes find useful items which have not been well titled.

Shops are a useful part of ebay which 50% of casual ebayers are oblivious to. You will often find the same items in shops at cheaper prices from reputable sellers, than are being offered at auctions with vague descriptions and blurred photos, with a few bidders furiously sending the price sky high.

For the seller a shop means they can offer stock on a longer term basis, at a consistent price, as well as having an area to display their goods in a more personal way.

For the buyer it means they can shop at leisure without the hit and miss buy it or lose it mentality.
