  • In first class football, the fastest ever goal was scored by Jim Fryatt of Bradford Park Avenue on 25th April 1964. Just four seconds after the kick-off, Tranmere Rovers found themselves a goal down.

Excluding substitutes, the fastest sending off in British football is held by Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman. The red card was shown to Pressman after just 13 seconds for handling a shot from Wolves' Temuri Ketsbaia outside the area, during the opening weekend of the 2001/2002 season.

  • Including substitutions Walter Boyd of Swansea was sent off in the fastest time in football history. Boyd came on to the pitch just as Swansea were about to take a free-kick. But before the kick was taken and the game resumed, he became involved with a scuffle on the edge of the box and punched one of his opponents. He was therefore shown the red card before the game restarted and was officially sent off after 0 seconds.

In 1891 the maximum wage for a football player was legally set at £4 a month in England with the signing on fee being a flat £10. In 1960/61, the maximum wage restriction was removed and Johnny Haynes of Fulham became the first British footballer to earn £100 a week.

  • The biggest transfer fee in English football history is £30m, when Manchester united signed England defender Rio Ferdinand from Leeds United in July 2002.

The most expensive player in the World is France's Zinedine Zidane, who cost Real Madrid £47.9m when they purchased him from Juventus in 2001.

  • Liverpool holds the record for the most league title wins, with eighteen.

Manchester United have won the F.A. Cup a record breaking 10 times.

  • Tottenham became the only non-league side to win the F.A. Cup, when they were victorious in 1901.

Mike Flanagan and Derek Hales were both sent off for fighting in a match in 1989. The problem was, that this reduced Charlton Athletic to nine men, as both players were on the same side.
