Can you believe that this beloved industry workhorse mic is actually being counterfeited? You'd better, it's true.

Before going ahead and purchasing one of these babies make sure that you ask these questions of the seller.

A) What is the weight of the mic? (A real SM 58 weighs 10.5 oz, fakes maybe lighter by 2 oz)
B) How wide is the central band on the grill. (Fakes are 5mm wide, real SMs are 4mm wide)
C) Does the side of the inner mic area show a Warranty sticker?( Real SM's don't have such a sticker)
D) Are the XLR pins numbered 1,2,3. (Fakes may be un-numbered)
E) How long is the carry pouch? It should be approx 10in (fakes are 8.5in long)

These are just some of the points to check before buying.

These fakes usually sell for £30. less than list but are no way an alternative option to the real deal.

Remember if it sounds too good to be true , then it probably is.

A note: There are fake SM 57s about too, but as of yet I have no info on them.
