Most Bose In Ear Headphones in plastic packs are newer versions
BUT PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR THE MANY FAKES IN PLASTIC PACKS
Very early versions had a solid black cable - all current versions have a black & white striped cable
COLOUR OF CABLE DOES NOT INDICATE IF HEADPHONES ARE FAKE
BLACK CABLE = OLDER, BUT COULD BE REAL OR FAKE
BLACK & WHITE CABLE = NEWER, BUT COULD BE REAL OR FAKE
All versions in a plastic pack should have the slim headphone connector - this is compatible with the original iPhone 2G, iPod Touch, iPhone 3G and almost every mp3/CD/DVD/laptop etc
Many of the fake Bose headphones in plastic packs have the same issue that makes them easy to spot...
First thing to check is the "hook hole" - designed for hanging on a rack in a shop...
On the genuine item, the hook hole is perfectly aligned and has an insert with the Bose logo
On these fakes, there is no Bose insert and the hole is much closer to the big Bose logo than it should be
On these fakes, there's a dodgy insert in the hole - but the whole thing is still off-centre and cuts into the big Bose logo
You can also check the way the pack is sealed around the edges... on fake packs the seal is slightly ridged/uneven... on the genuine item the seal is completely smooth to the touch
The only way to be sure of a genuine Bose headphones is to buy from a Bose dealer or a reputable seller with a history of selling 100% genuine items
