im writting this as a warning to unsuspecting bidder on the blight of fake and reproduction signs that have infected the railwayana catagories on ebay.

first off are the substandard signs from irish companies that are curently being made on mass and let out through several car boot sales around the country.

buyers not knowing the history of railway items instantly snap them up at cheap prices thinking 'oh its railway it must be worth more than that' and promptly place them on ebay expecting huge returns (some have even known to have start price of £150.00 with sellers instisting its been in the family for 30 years etc)

they dont resemble anything of a true sign and the dead give away is the text is always exactly the same despite the titles of the alleged ralway companies change...... example =

title of sign DUNDALK, GREENORE  & NEWRY RAILWAY will have in the text GREAT SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY.

most Irish pre 1923 companies are known as well as SOMERSET & DORSET RAILWAY.

the signs themselves are crudely typefaced and arent even a correct cast iron, more of a mix of alloys, pig iron and fillings and usually painted black or green with white lettering

Gate notices are also on the market from tiny short lines in Ireland always in the same pattern and are just as fake.
