Ford Ka Radio / CD Upgrade

What you need:

-10 free minutes.

-2 Radio Removal Keys (u shaped pieces metal that go into the square holes either side of the audio unit & release the internal holding mechanism for the entire unit).

You can buy these on eBay for about £1.20+ or £1.00+ in your local car hardware shop.

-A new Audio unit! - see the models below.

The standard Ford Ka radio models are:

-1000 (Tape & limited radio functionality).

-2000 (same as 1000, basically)

-3000 Traffic (same as 1000, plus RDS)

-4000 (same as 3000, plus extended RDS EON features - recognises radio station name, etc)

-5000 (Radio, RDS EON radio, Tape, compatible with a boot CD changer - expensive!).

Comes in two models - rotary volume control or rocker switch volume control)

-6000CD (Radio, Single CD, RDS EON radio, Tape, also compatible with a boot CD changer - expensive!).

Comes in two models - rotary volume control or rocker switch volume control)

-6000MP3 (Radio, Single CD, RDS EON radio, Tape, plays MP3s [from a CD only - no MP3 input] also compatible with a boot CD changer - expensive!).

Comes in two models - rotary volume control or rocker switch volume control)

-6006E/9006 - As above, but with CD Changer - requires extra cables that *may* not not be in your car as standard.

BEFORE BUYING:

1. Using the Radio Removal Keys, remove your exisitng audio unit (just push the keys about 1.5 inches in, then pull the whole unit out! Secure...yeah!)

2. Be careful as the cables are still connected at the back - leave them connected.

3. As you look at the top of the unit, look to the right and you will see a sticker, on the side, make a not of the colour (steel, grey, blue, etc).

4. When searching on eBay, make sure of two things:

- Get one with a Ford Ka fascia cover (not an oblong on, or it will look silly!).

- Make sure it's the same colour as the unit you're removing! (see step 3, above).

FITTING:

1. Make sure you have the "correct" radio code for the new unit - see "Radio codes" below.

2. Using the Radio Removal Keys, remove your exisitng audio unit (just push the keys about 1.5 inches in, then pull the whole unit out).

3. Carefully remove (just pull out) the three cables from the back of your unit.

4. Put the three cables back into the new unit - easy to recognise where they go - push them on firmly.

5. Carefully push the new unit back into position.

Radio Codes:

If you lose or don't know your code, go to http://forum.gsmhosting.com/ join, then post a message, containing your serial number (sticker on the top of the unit with the Serial Number) and some will post back your radio code within 30 mins!

If you have entered the wrong code too many times and the screen says "locked" - there is one FINAL way to enter a code:

1. power radio off

2. press and hold key 6

3. keep holding key 6 and turn power on

4. keep holding key 6 for aprrox 10 seconds

5. release key 6

Then you *may* be given the chance the enter one final attempt - get it right!

You could always throw caution to the wind and put in a different manufacturers model, you will need a blanking plate and also need to fit a cage (the exisitng unit does not use a cage).

Good Luck.
