CUT  DAFFODILS  AND  TULIPS - A TIP FOR LONGER VASE LIFE

Trade Secrets Revealed: Nothing looks nicer than a vase of daffs and tulips, but they can be so short lived.  The problem is that the sticky sap in the stems of daffodils is actually toxic to other flowers. Let me share a secret with you.  Here's a tip that will prevent your pretty display from ending too soon due to having daffoldils in the same water as tulips or other flowers.  Find a vase or clean jar that is smaller than the vase you want to put your flowers into, place it inside the vase and then fill with water, now fill the surrounding gap between the two glass vases, or the vase and jar. You can now place your spring flowers in the vase keeping the daffodil stems apart from the others so the toxin in their sap will not contaminate shared water.

You can even be creative with the space between the two containers by adding leaves, shells, sliced limes or whatever takes your fancy.
