The Pearl Grades listed below explain the different standards involved in the process of pearl grading. Those listed in this guide are the standards practised by the Mainland Chinese Pearl Traders.

A Grade - Extremely well-shaped, white, highly lustered with very minor surface blemishes.

B Grade - Well-shaped, white to light cream, highly lustered with minor surface blemishes.

C Grade - Irregular shape, off-white, medium luster with an irregular surface.

D Grade - Same as C grade, but one or more of the characteristics are excessively bad.

F Grade - These are for promotional use only. Not suitable for jewellery making ( most are actually ground to pearl dust and used in cosmetics ).

Some Pearls that fall between Grades are given the mixed grades, eg  A-B Grade.

Pearls promote sincerity, truth and loyalty. Enhances personal integrity, soothes and calms, yet focuses attention.
