Hello and welcome to my guide for buying a GSXR 750 slabside!

The slabside was the very first GSXR 750, back in the mid 1980's, nothing could keep up with it!

Prior to this bike, most sportsbikes were 2 strokes, fast, but unreliable, would break down, terrible on fuel (10mpg or less for the 500cc models), and due to the powerbanded nature of a two stroke engine, difficult to ride!

Suzuki showed the world that reliable, fast, ecomonic 4 stroke superbikes were an option, now, nearly all superbikes are 4 stroke!

Now a days, in my opinion, the GSXR 750 slabside is a future classic, still performs well, without rampant engine failure and rusting problems like many other classics

First of all, the power, 100bhp, which is more than enough if your not use to superbikes, the power deliverly is smooth and controlable.

The handling, low speed is poor, all sportsbikes are, high speed is light and nimble, but twitchy at over 140mph.

Fuel economy, is about 35 miles to the gallon, when hammered, it's a lot less, believe me, good fuel tank size though.

Insurance, is cheap, as it's a classic, you get classic insurance, not normally pricy superbike insurance, making it an affordable to run classic.

Comfort, I am over six foot, and it was surprisingly comfortable over long distances, so suitable for people whom are tall!

But it's not all sweetness and light!

Spare parts are in short supply, even secondhand, and if you do buy genuine suzuki, extremly expensive!

The brakes do boil, if you nail the brakes coming off a motorway at very high speeds (130+mph), they will overheat and fade badly!

The pillion ride, accordingly to my girlfriend, is very hard!

Most luggage kits don't fit properly!

Due to the way the carbs work, you have to switch the fuel tap off, everytime, otherwise fuel can lack into the cylinders when not in use and cause lots of damage the next time the bike is started up!

On the whole though, I really enjoyed owning my GSXR 750 slabside, a good fun ride, I kept up with the modern stuff quite nicely, and it gained instant respect at my motorcycle club!

You can pick up a good example of these motorcycles for around £800 to £1500, for what your getting, it's a bargain!
