Annuals do seem ten a penny, well not quite, but they are very common. Most TV shows, cartoons, etc. have annuals. Here are some of the most popular.
Beano/Monster The first Beano Annual was in 1940. The characters include Big Eggo, Biffo the Bear, Little Plum, The Bash Street Kids and most recently, Dennis the Menace. It is published by D.C. Thomson.
Dandy. Although thought of the rival to Beano, also made by D.C. Thomson, started in 1940. The characters include Korky the Cat and Desperate Dan.
Rupert Bear. Rupert started off in the Daily Express. It was created by Mary Tourtel. The first annual was in 1936.
The Broons. (That is, the Browns) Another D.C. Thomson creation. Technically speaking they are not an annual, they alternate every year with Oor Willie. The first dated annual was in 1965, though the first one was in 1939. (The cover should be recognition enough.)
Giles Annuals. These were small paperback annuals, created by Carl Giles. His most famous character was Grandma. The first annual was in 1950 (though cartoon collections were published before this).
Doctor Who Annual. The first Doctor Who annual was in 1966. There were discontinued in 1986 but they started again in 2006.
