A lot of people do not understand the importance of regular maintenance of their laptops. If you know how to look after your laptop many problems can be prevented, including component failure.

If a laptop is used full time or even every day, it is important to give it regular breaks. Although they are built to provide sufficient cooling to the motherboard and other components laptops can get very hot after a long period of use. If you've been using your laptop for most of the day we recommend you leave it unplugged from the power supply to allow it to cool down. In doing this you will increase your laptops performance and longevity, potentially preventing hardware failure.

Another way of preventing serious problems with your laptop is to regually clean it, albeit very carefully. There are various products that you can use to maintain your laptop such as Air Dust, Plastic Cleansing Wipes, Screen Cleansing Wipes and Keyboard Cleaning Sticks. It is imperative that the cooling fans are free of dust and dirt so that they are able to operate to their full potential and keep the motherboard at a working temperature and prevent overheating. Any dust they gets sucked into the laptop through the fan builds up around the inside of the laptop and in the heatsink of the fan, potentially preventing it from cooling the motherboard sufficiently.

In extreme cases a large build up of dust can and will short out the motherboard or even damage it beyond repair should it fall onto it. The best way of removing dust from in and around the fan area is to use a dry high pressure air spray and blast away any unwanted accumulation. Just ensure that this is done when the laptop is powered down to make sure you don't touch a live connection.

As mentioned before, a bit of TLC can increase your laptop's life expectancy and allow it to perform efficiently.
