Hair extensions / fake hair / real human hair dreads are so popular with celebs like Victoria Beckham, but did you know hair extensions could really ruin your hair?

Jennifer Aniston finally blew the lid on hair extensions. Yes, her hair is fab and - she was often envied by millions of women during the mid-90's for her trendy coif - now Aniston says that the hair extensions she wore during filming of the last season of 'Friends' had actually damaged her hair.

She says she only wore the extensions after regretting chopping off her hair.

"After Friends I wanted a different look, so I cut my hair. Obviously, I wasn't thinking clearly," she says, according to the Daily Mail.

"So I decided to have a couple of extensions, never knowing you end up with 400 things in your head that cause your hair to break off.

"Nothing destroys your hair faster than extensions. It's taken a year and a half to get my hair grown out."

Think ahead. The quest for gorgeous long locks need not be so painful and risky. Long hair can be acheived by anyone if you follow a few simple tips:
  1.  Eat well - that means a healthy diet of vitamin rich food, proteins and oils eg mackerel, oily fish, eggs and dairy.
  2. Massage your scalp  - there is nothing like a professional Indian head massage  to stimulate the scalp and get those hair follicles excited! If you can´t afford massages, invest in a head massager brush.
  3. Trim your hair regularly. Regulars trims will keep your hair healthy. Just tell your hairdresser to take off no more than a centimetre.
  4. Take hair vitamins + supplements. This is essential - your hair cannot get all the nourishment it needs just from food, so feed it!
  5. Consider specialist food products for the hair like FAST (Fortified Amino Scalp Therapy)
  6. Oil your hair weekly with either Almond or Olive oil, or if you really want a top product, use Dr. Hauschka´s hair oil
