A peice of silk fabric (material) that has been painted by hand, using dyes.

Which ever type of dye has been used to paint the silk, needs to be fixed or cured, to allow the silk to be washed.

The art form or craft is called silk painting and artists produce many more items than just paintings, such as, scarves, ties, handbags, cushions, and greetings cards to name a few!

The techniques used to paint silk are numerous and so are the finished results! No two ties etc. can be the same, so everything paited is a one off original!
