It my be a silly question, but I have found that most people dont change their UV bulbs untill they blow.
But UV bulbs only emit UV rays for around 3-4 months, after that the element glows but the UV producing chemicals have already been used up.
Your UV light might still be giving of a healthy purple glow, but is it killing the algee cells its supposed to be getting rid of?
If you havent changed the bulb in the last 3-4 months, chances are, its just wasting electricity.
