We,ve just got through the season of nasty cold and flu
bugs in the UK but already the hayfever season is about to kick in. A
large amount of people start to feel the effects of the early tree
pollen released at the end of February and some mistake these symptoms
to be another cold. These symptoms are sneezing, runny nose and itchy
eyes and throat but without the raised temperature associated with
colds and flu. Breathing can become difficult once again for asthmatics.
Prevention is the key to keeping symptoms under control. During an allergic attack the body rushes to prevent the chemicals in pollen "attacking" the body which is an abnormal response. In turn the body releases a chemical called histamine which causes the unpleasant side effects of allergy. Antihistamines such as loratadine, ceterizine and Beconase block the histamine from being released which frees the body from allergy symptoms.
