The other point to watch for when purchasing a helmet is Type A and Type B. Type B helmets are made of polyresin and regardless of useage typically last 3 years according to manufacturers spec. Type A however is a kevlar mix and typically lasts 5 years.  The type should be adjacent to the gold ACU kite mark on most helmets.
