Horses have played a prominent role in man's conquest of the planet. For thousands of years horses had served us as an efficient means of transport, maintaining the lives of our expanding populations through their work in agriculture and also helping us to crush our foes in military campaigns.

Although the 20th century gave birth to many new and exciting inventions and discoveries, there were many casualties. The horse was one of them, as machines rapidly replaced their traditional function in society. Fortunately, many horse breeds still survive today and are extremely popular in racing, show jumping, hunting and leisure pursuits.

Cigarette cards were issued on many topics from the 1870s-1930s, and the horse is one of them. Horse cigarette cards are very popular, especially since only a few were issued. I've listed a small selection of cigarette card sets containing horse cards below. I've provided scans of a sample card from each set and I've tried to list as many card titles as possible.
