How to use the 3d craft tools stamps
The craftool range of 3D stamps are designed to be used with vegetable tanned leather, they provide a quick way to add highly detailed images to your leatherwork.
First you need to case the leather, this means to damped the leather with water to get the right moisture content for the leather to accept impressions. Use a damp sponge to case the leather & allow it to return to its natural colour.
Stamping handles are a quick & cheaper alternative to the industrial imprinting machines , use a rawhide or a poly nylon headed mallet to protect the tools & the stamps.
Place the leather on a flat surface such a marble or granite, then position the stamp with handle & make a light blow with the maul , followed by several heavier blows to ensure a dark impression is made. Try not to bounce the stamp on the leather otherwise the impression will be distorted. Other methods of making the impression are within a g- clamp or vice against a flat surface.
Finally allow the leather to dry, you can use leather dye or acrylic paint to further enhance the image.
