We - Davoc and Anne Rynne in Irish-Celt - wallow in Irish made items from another era – a real flavour of the past – something to remind all the Irish exiles, emigrants, wanderers and travellers of the old home sod. We love to include with our photographs and descriptions, snippets of Irish history, for the diaspora to mull over.
Ireland must be the only country in the world that has a population of five million, but over forty million people boast to the world that they are Irish. Ye are the great and grand people we want to address and send out pieces to - little memories of the old Ireland your ancestors left behind.
We live on a small island on the edge of Europe - with a long and fascinating history. A lot of this history involved struggle, poverty and resistance. Because of this and particularly relating to a devestating Famine in the 1840s - we had very little possessions and therefore anything coming from the mid 19th century or before, are rarities. Having said that there are niches of particular Irish interest that are very collectable. For example, an Irish Postman's cap badge is three times more valuable than an equivalent English badge. Irish silver is extremely collectable and desirable and commands twice as much as equivalent London silver.
Irish railway items - buttons, badges, documents, timetables are very much sought after by collectors. Remember that our railway network is very small - which makes the items easy to research, desirable to collect and makes them a sound investment. Irish Police, Army, Postal, Coinage, Sport, Music et al also fit this bill. Belleek Pottery commands great respect in the world of china and parian ware. It is second to none for its designs and it's pearl-like delicate beauty.
