The first novel by James T.Long a writer that has just landed on the literacy scene with this adventure novel set in the future, featuring motorcycles, roads and sex.
The back cover informs us that it is the year 2025 and the "Cyber Net" which controls most of Japans electronic operations has crashed and thrown the country into meltdown, grinding the economy to a halt. Two hardened bikers with vintage machinery that are not connected to the system like most vehicles of the time, decide now is a good time to take a break. They make use of the fact that the highways are largley clear of traffic and that the policing systems that govern speed are no longer operational. This adventure feature the 3 "B's" of biking, beer, bikes and bonking. This book contains adult material, if you know anything about the biking scene you will understand, and probably find this very normal.
Having managed to trawl to the end of chapter 6 (which is almost half way through the 200 page novel) I can honestly say I feel like I've personaly travelled every mile of the trip. Detail of things irrelevent to the story (if there is one) is to the point of ridiculesness and things you might want to know about the characters are completley missed. The whole thing could probably be re-writen into a 1000 word short story without losing any of the plot. If I can manage to finish the book it will be a miracle as it is so poorly written that you find yourself re-reading passages to make sure you've read it right first time.
The auther clearly has a drug problem as it seems that even he loses the plot to his own story by the end of chapter 3. The first paragraph starts well but after that it quickley plumets downhill. It is amusing to read amongst friends just for the pure novelty value and you can't help wondering if the idea of the story was hatched over one joint too many, while watching the Terminator. The choice of bikes for 21st century ridings hardly ideal for high adventure with a Trident 750 pre-unit (whatever that means) and a Honda CB400 4. Strange motorcycles appear briefly such as the High Booster and every car that appears is a vintage Nissan Skyline. A whole chapter is devoted to loading up the bikes and they don't even make it up the road!
To sum up this book has reasonable entertainment value near the beginning and if you suffer with insomnia may just have the cure within its pages. I have read the ending and it's as uneventful as the rest of the book has been so far. The sex scenes will have you rolling on the floor, but they don't last long and look as though they are influenced by cheap porno mags. Just may become a cult book purley for being complete crap, but hopefully will disapear off the face of the earth. I would heartily recommend it as a christmas or birthday present for people you don't like with no sense of humour that are into motorbikes. Insist they read it in your presence or you will be offended and laugh your arse off as you ask them how the stories going.
