Model lamposts and lights from China.

These lamps are dangerous

I fitted some triple and single light lamps to my layout. After a short while I could smell something burning. It was the wires to the lights. They are very thin wires and are bare wire like the sort used in point motors. The lights too began to melt the globes and the plastic curved streetlights melted the top of the post. In my opinion these items are substandard and not tested. You could end up with a fire easily with these products. Cheap, cute and dangerous.

Follow up:

I sent the lights to the Trading Standards office locally. They had them tested and came to the conclusion that they were only suitable for 6 volt circuits. They are at present giving consideration to what should be done about them as most if not all model railway controllers / transformers have 12 - 16 volt outlets.
