I bought 2 of these gates, one for the top of the stairs and one for the bottom. They look good, goes with the decor, extends but that is as far as it goes. Okay it also does its job in keeping young toddlers having nasty accidents with stairs, but with a very young child it is impossible to open the gate while the child is in your arms. You have to open the safety latch (which is like spring loaded, take your fingers away and it springs back) and keep it open with one hand and lift the gate with the other..very frustrating when you have a sleeping child in your arms or a young baby. Okay it is possible to open with one hand if you have very extra long fingers to juggle the latch and lifting at the same time..But if like me I don't have extra long fingers and even my husband having big hands we still find we have to put our baby down to open the gate.
