Here's a simple guide to all of Madonna's official UK albums.  This guide is for buyers to check if they're buying a UK issue, and if it's an original or reissue.  Note: other special editions of some albums are available from other countries but they are not included on this list.

MADONNA/THE FIRST ALBUM

Madonna's debut album was first issued on CD in July 1983.  It was manufactured and issued in Germany (disc pictured) with a black & white cover sleeve.  Catalogue No: 7599 23867-2.

In September 1985, the album was repackaged with full colour different picture sleeve and retitled "The First Album".  Catalogue No: 7599 23867-2  Both albums have the same eight tracks.

In June 2001, Madonna's three first albums were reissued with their original artwork.  The tracks were remastered and each disc contains two bonus 12" remixes.  The debut album contained the original artwork as the first 1983 issue (pictured).  Catalogue No: 9362 47903-2.

LIKE A VIRGIN

This album was first issued in the UK on CD in November 1984.  It contained nine tracks and had a lace effect back cover which is now rare (pictured).  Catalogue No: 9 25157-2.

In September 1985 this album was reissued with the single "Into The Groove" included.  The back cover was also changed to a plain white sleeve with song titles on. Catalogue No: 7599 25181-2.

In June 2001 this album was remastered and reissued as per 1984 version, with original artwork and two additional 12" remixes on the end.  Catalogue No: 9362 47901-2.

TRUE BLUE

Issued June 1986 Madonna's third album contains nine tracks and artwork.  Catalogue No: 7599 25442-2. 

"True Blue" was remastered and reissued in June 2001 with original artwork (as per USA issue) and two additional 12" remixed tracks on the end.  Catalogue No: 9362 47902-2.

WHO'S THAT GIRL

The nine track soundtrack album featuring four Madonna tracks was issued in August 1987.  Catalogue No: 925 611-2.  It has never been reissued since on CD in the UK.

YOU CAN DANCE

This 10 track remixes album was issued once on CD in November 1987.  Contained three dub mixes available on CD only. Catalogue No: 7599 25535-2.

LIKE A PRAYER

Released March 1989 featured 11 tracks.  Initial copies had a patchouli scented inner sleeve and contained an advice leaflet on AIDS.  Catalogue No: 925 844-2.

I'M BREATHLESS

Released May 1990, contains 12 tracks.  Catalogue No: 7599 26290-2.

THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION

The first "best of" from Madonna featuring 17 tracks slightly remixed/remastered released November 1990.  Catalogue No: 7599 26440-2.  A special limited edition "Royal Box" was also issued (Catalogue No: 7599 26464-2)  containing custom CD in blue velvet digipak, 13 track video, postcards and poster in stickered 12" x 12" title box.

EROTICA

Two versions of this album were issued in October 1992.  The 'dirty' version contained the track "Did You Do It" (Catalogue No: 9362 45031-2) and the 'clean' version (Catalogue No: 9362 45154-2)omitted this track.  Both had exactly the same artwork and 13 tracks.

BEDTIME STORIES

Issued in October 1994 the 11 track album came with full artwork in a turquoise plastic inner CD tray (Catalogue No: 9362 45767-2).  However, unlike the USA cover, the picture was reversed (as shown in pics).

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER

A 14 track best of ballads including three new songs issued November 1995.  The first issue had a floral design back cover (Catalogue No: 9362 46100-2), later issues have a different back cover design with a picture of Madonna (same catalogue number).

RAY OF LIGHT

13 track album issued March 1998.  Catalogue no: 9362 46847-2. A special limited edition 13 track album was also issued in a 3D silk effect digipak (Catalogue No: 9362 46688-2).

MUSIC

11 track album issued September 2000 (Catalogue No: 9362 47865-2) including "American Pie" with stickered case.  Special limited edition 11 track albums were issued in fabric digipacks with copper music logo on front in stickered sleeve.  However, booklets for the European Limited Edition appear to be made in U.S.A, therefore "American Pie" is not credited inside although it's on the CD.  Fabric colours issued - green, red, black and blue and all have the same catalogue no: 9362 47921-2.

In June 2001 a special limited 'Tour' 2CD edition of this album was released (Catalogue No: 9362 48135-2).  It contains the 10 track album (without "American Pie") and an enhanced remixes album with video.

GHV2

The second 'best of' from Madonna released November 2001 contains 15 singles (all edited radio versions).  Catalogue No: 9362 48000-2.

AMERICAN LIFE

11 track album issued April 2003, the first version was not edited and therefore has a "Parental Guidance" sticker on the front (Catalogue No: 9362 48439-2).  A 'clean' edited version was also issued (Catalogue No: 9362 48454-2).  Both versions are enhanced CDs. 

REMIXED & REVISITED

7 track mini album issued November 2003 (Catalogue No: 9362 48624-2) in stickered case.  Contains remixes and a previously unreleased track.

CONFESSIONS ON A DANCEFLOOR

Non-stop 12 track album issued November 2005.  Some issued came in stickered case.  Catalogue No: 9362 49460-2.

I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A SECRET

Issued June 2006, this was the first live release from Madonna.  CD contains 14 tracks recorded live and the DVD features the documentary film of the title and bonus material.  Catalogue No: 9362 49990-2.

THE CONFESSIONS TOUR

Issued January 2007.  DVD features full concert and the CD contains 13 tracks recorded live from the show.  Catalogue No: 9362 44489-2.

HARD CANDY

Issued May 2008.  CD contains 12 tracks plus two bonus remixes.  Comes in deluxe DVD sized box with booklet and mint candy. Catalogue No: 9362 4987680.
