Legends
Legends was the third expansion set of Magic the Gathering, released in June 1994. The symbol for the set was the capital of a column. It was the first expansion set to have boosters sold with fifteen cards, instead of eight. The set sold out very quickly, especially in the United Kingdom, where they were in great demand at the time of release. There were a total of 310 cards.
Notable Errors
Each booster box only contained half of the available uncommons. The UK only received one of the halves, making it extremely hard to complete the set.
New Mechanics
Legends added four new mechanics to the Magic the Gathering game:
- Rampage: the creature became more powerful as more creatures blocked it
- Banding: allowed creatures to join together (with as many creatures had banding, and one which did not) and attack
- Multicoloured cards: cards with a gold bordered had multiple mana colour casting costs
- Legendary: only one of each legendary card could be in play at any one time
Famous Cards
Mana drain: This extremely powerful card is considered by many to be one of the best counter-spells available, as well as countering, it adds to your mana pool. All for the same mana price of a standard counter-spell. It is currently a format-defining card in vintage.
