When it comes to which makeup to use the choice is practically endless. Sometimes a simple shopping trip can turn into a very exhausting experience as we face an endless supply of products each with their own purpose. That’s one of the main reasons minerals have become so popular – the versatility they offer. You can use minerals wherever you like and mix them up to your own preference. Multi-purpose products that REALLY do the job they were made to do. Skin friendly, its what is left out of them that makes a difference. Skin irritants such as artificial fragrances, colours, and preservatives aren’t included in the ingredients so this has to be good news. Also the smaller companies that make mineral makeup seem to keep their ingredients more natural. The top mineral makers include Bismuth in their formulations, which is an irritant for a lot of women.
Regular foundations can be mask like which is not very flattering. Mineral foundation is different, it looks and feels much more natural, with superb coverage. It smoothes and evens out skin tone, giving the look of airbrushed, naturally flawless skin, rather than thick goopy foundations. It lets your skin breathe, provides complete coverage for skin conditions like acne, rosacea and redness following treatments like chemical peels and laser resurfacing. It can perfectly cover up any birthmarks or scars with ease. Provides complete coverage for spider veins, freckles, blemishes and hyper-pigmentation All this and your being kind to your skin, the natural anti-inflammatory qualities of this makeup actually support the healing process, making it superb for problematic skin types susceptible to acne, eczema, and rosacea. There’s also the added bonus of broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays.
I’ve heard mineral makeup described as makeup you can sleep in, which is a great way of describing how beneficial the ingredients are for your skin (I personally think good skin care is very important so although you can sleep in it, ideally you should still cleanse before bed). If you have an active lifestyle then the water resistant properties offered here are a breath of fresh air, you rarely a need to reapply which has got be good on the pocket. Minerals not only cost you less, you use less product, which also saves you time.
The products available include: -
Yellow concealer - for dark under eye circles, this will also help neutralize mild red tones before applying your foundation
Green concealer - this concealer helps to correct redness from acne, broken blood vessels, rosacea, sunburn, peels and dermabrasion. (Always consult your doctor after laser or chemical peels).
Blue concealer - Will neutralize orange tones that many women have from fake tanning products. A skin brightener for sallow skin tone
Lilac/Lavender concealer - combats yellow or sallow unhealthy looking skin tones. This is mainly used as a cover up for yellow bruising after an accident or surgery.
Pink concealer - Works to neutralize yellow skin tones and cheers up dull looking skin.
Mineral Veil can be used as a primer before foundation, after foundation to help set it or just on its own. Foundation is best applied with a tightly packed kabuki brush. Just dip your brush in your product and gently tap the excess back in the jar or use the lid instead. Next tap the base of your brush on your dressing table/counter to load the brush and then apply in light circular motions. I swirl from the outside and work my way in but this is up to you. If you use moisturizer let it dry completely first or the foundation will look cakey. DON’T OVER APPLY – APPLY IN LAYERS!!! Use your brush to polish your skin adding more product if necessary in small amounts only. Build up several light layers to achieve a more natural, flawless finish. The secret to a good application is to buffing your skin lightly with your kabuki brush, which gives your skin an airbrushed look to it. Remember less is more – a little does go a long way. Or you can mix your foundation with a blob of your favourite moisturiser. I put a bit of tissue under the jar to catch any powder, as it is a bit messy to begin with. Once you have used minerals a couple of times it becomes very quick and easy and should last all day!
