My favorite Boards are the At Socket 7, especially the later versions as they were designed to run processors that were never built and Technology was built into these motherboards to accomadate these ghost processors. I have encountered some that will run at 150Mhz Fsb and more. This was also the cross over period to the atx form so many of these units had features that you would recconise on any atx or btx motherbaords today. The only real differnce not counting cpu speed but board spec is the ps2 inputs now Usb driven to accomodate the Keyboard and Mouse.
At MoboAtx Micro
The main item I sell are motherboards, and I test all items before listing on Ebay. This helps to eliminate some questions/problems, I.e. does it works. has it been tested. Most other sellers list items without stateing this factor, and I have had emails from buyers telling me how many motherboards they brought that do not work, this could be exspensive and costly. Also if the board is bad it can also damage you other components such as your processror that can instantly fry as soon as powerr is sent throught he board, as well as ram memory.
Listing Motherboards
Where possible I try and give a complete spec of the item listed, Unfortunatly I have many other things also to list and time becomes a factor, and I only sometimes give the boards model number and any availble details printed on the pcb, also a genaral list of features on the motherboard.
By using the model and revision or (Rev: ) number you can input this data into your search browser, and if you're lucky you may find information via maufacturer/Dedicated site set-up vending info about hardware or forum website about the product! some boards as you well may have encountered have no model number or identification marks or the maufactorer as not listed the spec on thier website, certain boards are well known for this. Type Product Name/Model Number/Then Specification!
I certainly believe the buyer is responsible for any items purchased via seller, as he will be forking out the cash, and should investigate as much as possible about a product before buying, to insure it will do what he desire's it to do and perform.
Problems with buyers
Certain buyers who are new to systems building! reccomended should start with a low spec platform, simply it would be a less of a loss if he blows it up, also buyers should take responsibility if they buy and item and damage it by using faulty or defective auxilary items, then e,ailing the seller saying the item is faulty, this seems to be the main lie that I have encountered, I personally could not blame some one else for my mistakes, most genuine buyers would take responsibililty for their mistake. Because I fully test all my items I know 100% that they have been sent out working, so when I get an email stating otherwise I know that the fault or issue is with the buyer. I do a NO REFUND policy, All Items are Fully Tested and Working!
Another issue most common occurs when a board is setup wrongly, i have helped builders out by emiling instructions, although I an sriously thinking of interfacing more via the web cam and guide the build in real time. Board damage also occur when the system as been clocked-up and fails, clock-up at your own exspense.
What to look for when buying a motherbaord
A clean clear image is a good start, as you can in-spec the item visually, and check for broken or missing parts, also raised or leaking capacitors. Check items description to image, I have often wrongly described items or applied the wrong image to a description. also because I use the same template for listing simular items, sometime forget to modify the product description fields, this is not intentional to mislead just over-looked and a big thank you to other ebayers who have spotted these errors and informed me about this, how it should be.
