The coffee you get from a Nespresso machine is excellent, you will not get better results, it creates minimum mess and is hot. It is a bit espensive at 25p a cup, although if you buy more expensive coffee (comparable with Nespresso capsules) it works out at around £2.50 to £3.50 for 125 gm, which is about 15p to 25p a cup.

For everyday use I use an AEG bean to cup machine that I bought on eBay (from Germany) about 3 years ago for £180 including delivery. I have had to replace the main workings for £80, again bought on eBay. Using mid range Sainsbury-Tesco-Waitrose coffee beans at about £1.60 for 227 gm I can get good results at about 10p a cup, although not as good as Nespresso even with the more expensive coffees. It is very easy to use and keep clean. The dowside is that the cofee is not really hot enough, so you must warm the cup (in a microwave) frst. All bean to cup machines seem to have the same problem.

An expresso machine operating at 15psi (Nespresso is 17 + psi) extracts oils from the coffee that you just don't get with a filter machine and the coffee does taste different.
