Being tempted to buy Nikon or Sigma lenses from Hong Kong, I decided to check the "value" of the International Warranty on offer.

It was my experience, having contacted both Nikon & Sigma, that lenses sourced from HK would be repaired under warranty at the nearest Sigma/Nikon repair facility from where it was originally purchased - i.e. you have to send it back to Hong Kong.

Effectively the "International Warranty" on offer by HK sellers (even photographic shops in HK) is rather useless in the UK.
