Okay, i have heard from recent guides that lots of people have been giving the PSP great reviews but before you buy one I strongly reccomend reading this guide and seeing the competition.
PSP (Play Station Portable):
- This console is a highly commersial product. Developers have created several games which can be bought on the high street.
- The PSP offers a variety of home brew content. You can download average quality emulators for consoles before the psx and two very slow (low quality) N64 emulators have been developed.
- It has wi-fi so can surf the internet, play games online and connect with the ps3 (so sony says).
- It has an infared port, so can transfer photos.
- It has a 480x272 screen (130560 pixels) and has 16.77 million colours.
- It has two processors which run at 222MHz but can be overclocked to 333MHz.
- It has 32 mega-bytes of ram.
- It uses a rechargable lithium-ion battery.
- It has a maximum of 6 hours game play.
- It has region locking so games cannot be played from other parts of the world.
- It allows video and mp3 playback.
- It uses flash memory sticks (which look like cards).
- No touch screen.
- No microphone (although can be purchaced as a headset).
- No TV out socket.
- Is already out.
- Price: £180 (Approx)
Nintendo DS (Dual Screen):
- This console is a highly commersial product. Developers have created several games which can be bought on the high street.
- Little or no homebrew content.
- It has wi-fi so play games online.
- No infared port.
- It has two 256x192 screens (98304 pixels)
- It has two processors, 67MHz and 33MHz
- It has 4 Mega-Bytes of ram.
- It uses a rechargable lithium-ion battery.
- It has a maximum of 10 hours game play.
- It is region free, so games can be played from other parts of the world.
- No multimedia support (although a Play-Yan adaptor can be purchaced.
- Game saves are stored to an SD memory card.
- It features touch screen capabilities.
- It has a built in microphone (which can be used for voip)
- No TV out socket.
- Is already out.
- Price: £90 (approx)
Nintendo DS (Dual Screen) Lite:
The Lite is just another version of the DS. It is 21% lighter, 42% smaller and has a maximum of 19 hours game play. It has a more scratch resistant screen. It is already out in some parts of the world.
Price: £125 (approx)
XGP (Xtreme Game Player):
- Is an underdog console but aims to hit the commersial market.
- Is highly likely to offer some high quality emulators and a PSX emulator is in the making and there is a possiblity of an N64 emulator being created. Games can be downloaded which are created by others.
- It has wi-fi so can surf the internet and play games online.
- No infared port.
- It has a 480x272 screen (130560 pixels) and has 1.6 million colours.
- It has one 200MHz processor (very likely that it can be overclocked) and also a 3D graphics card - probably running at 200MHz too.
- It has 64 mega-bytes of ram.
- It uses a rechargable lithium-ion battery.
- Gameplay time unknown.
- It is region free, so games can be played from other parts of the world.
- It allows video and mp3 playback.
- It uses SD cards.
- No touch screen.
- No microphone.
- Has a TV out socket.

XGP (Xtreme Game Player) mini:
The Mini is another version of the XGP. It has 32 mega-bytes of RAM, no TV out socket and no wireless. It has a 320x240 screen (76800 pixels).

GP2X
- Is an underdog console - intended for mostly homebrew content.
- There are many high quality emulators for the GP2X and is a possiblity of an N64 and PSX emulator being created. Includes software to create your own games and games can be downloaded which are created by others.
- No Wi-fi.
- No infared port.
- It has a 320x240 screen (76800 pixels) and has 170 thousand colours.
- It has two 200MHz processors which often run at 240MHz anyway and can be overclocked to at least 319MHz.
- It has 64 mega-bytes of ram.
- It uses a rechargable AA batteries.
- Gameplay time unknown.
- It is region free, so games can be played from other parts of the world.
- It allows video and mp3 playback.
- It uses SD cards.
- No touch screen.
- No microphone.
- Has a TV out socket.
- Already out.
- Price: £110 (approx)
Iriver G10
- This console is a highly commersial product. Developers have created several games which can be bought on the high street.
- Home brew content unknown.
- It has wi-fi so play games online and stream music ... maybe more.
- Infared port unknown.
- It has a 800x480 (384000 pixels) and 260 thousand colours.
- Processor(s) unknown.
- Ram unknown.
- Batteries unknown.
- Game play time unknown.
- Regions unknown.
- Allows video and mp3 playback.
- Internal storage; either 4 or 8 giga-bytes.
- Touch screen unknown.
- Microphone unknown.
- Tv out socket unknown.
- Out towards the end of the year.
