Paper Buying Guide

Papers are now available in a bewildering variety of colours and textures, all of which if used appropriately can enhance any craft project from cardmaking to designing your own wedding cards and invitations.

Here at The Papermill we have formed close links with Europes leading paper produces to offer a wide variety of weights, sizes and colour combinations.

Smooth card remains the most popular item for cardmaking with 250g and 300g offering the ideal weight for stiffness - you don't want your card to fall down on display! Anything lighter than 250g just doesn't have the quality feel that a professionaly finished card offers. Matching inserts and backing papers are available in 80g and 160g.

For subtle colours and a great feel why not consider a parchment paper? Available in a good selection of colours and with matching paper weights and envelopes, this range is fantastic for invitations, orders of service and thank-you notes. Parchment paper and card always suggest quality and distinction.

Textures are acheived by embossing papers and card either as they are made, or "off-line". Textures enhance the tactile appeal of any paper, the most popular are still linen and hammer texture 260g card, available in white, ivory and grey with matching paper weights in 100g. As interest has grown in textured card we are now offering a range of custom embossings, Applique, Broderie, Watersilk and Fabrique - a unique service offering professional finishes to homebased businesses.

If you're looking to customise your project, your supplier should be able to offer you a range of finishing services, cutting - either standar A sizes, A4, A5, A6 etc or custom - 2/3rds A4 for tall thin cards fitting DL envelopes, or any size you choose.

Pre-creasing is becoming a popular  choice with card makers, pre-creasing offers a precision fold and can be single fold say A4 to A5, gate or double fold, or Z fold. Pre-creasing takes the hard work out of folding your cards and ensures an accurate professional finish to the project.
