Paypal payment protection facts.... : eBay Guides

Once again paypal protection has decided to let me down.
I recently purchased 2 Steam Irons on eBay, and used paypal as a method of payment, thinking (stupidly) that I would have protection if anything went wrong. It did!!!
The Irons turned up in hell of a state, should never have been sold both were clogged with corrosion and 1 was dangerous with connections showing..
I asked the seller for a refund, which he has agreed to finally after telling me to use these items as doorstops.. But he wants me to return at my cost????
So I escalate to a claim on paypal, now paypal inform me I have to return at my cost which will not be reimbursed, using a trackable form of postage which will cost more.
I really seems ludicrous that sellers can sell any 'TAT' on eBay, even electrical goods that are unsafe????? And sellers can't redress, unless they pay.
What has happened to trading with respect and politeness to the buyer?????.....

Update.........Has just cost £8.94, to return £9.90 worth of purchase..Thanks paypal, your protection is a joke.

Now the seller (Aladdins Depot) has informed me, that if I had returned item and not gone to paypal for refund he would have changed items and issued refund of postage?!?!
