The sweet disposition and laid-back attitute of the Persian cat makes it a great pet for both children and adults alike. Their characteristic large round eyes and small flat noses have charmed people for may years and they are amongst the most popular breed of cat in the world.

A heavily boned and yet well-balanced cat that despite it's appearance moves with surprising agility. They sport a long, flowing coat of fur with a 'brush' of a tail often as wide as the body itself.

Short, chunky legs and small, wide-spaced rounded ears set either side of their large round heads complete their overall appearance and expression.

A Persian cat's thick, long coat stands away from the body and continues in a deep ruff underneath the front legs. Daily maintenance by way of grooming and detangling is required on your part if you are to keep your cat free from 'matting', tangles and hairballs commonly associated with this breed. Occasional bathing is also required to keep the fur healthy and clean.

The Persian cat is particularly susceptible to a genetic disease known as 'polysystic kidney disease' which can lead to kidney failure as the animal ages. However, screening is now available so that responsible breeders can help eliminate this.

A Persian cat's eyes need to be checked regularly as some animals have problems keeping them clean. A gentle wipe with a moist tissue will easily remove any residue that has formed in the eye area.

There is no disputing that this animal requires great commitment, but most owners will enjoy the daily grooming routine and the chance to spend some quality time with their pet.

A fantastic choice for a 'house-cat' as the Persian adapts well to an indoor environment whilst their calm and laid-back temperaments ensure that they feel comfortable and will settle into the majority of households.

An extremely affectionate animal, very placid and yet playful in their own way making them a great companion and a constant source of delightful joy.

The Persian cat's gorgeous fluffy coat comes in a variety of colours which are seperated into seven categories for show-cats. These divisions are based on the colour patterns of the fur along with the animal's eye colour which come in a rainbow of shades usually relevant to the coat.

Life expectancy is on average between 10-18 years in a well maintained, healthy feline.
